CBD For Recovery: My Runner Routine

Previously, I wrote a massive article on my own in-depth research around how CBD works, what runners need to know about using it and yes even going through my own skepticism and experiences.

The result of that post was a ton of questions about how I incorporate CBD in to my daily routine. Especially with all the traveling that I’ve been doing or as I start to progress in my Chicago marathon training!

For starters, I think it’s important to know that I still use Resilience CBD because I’ve seen results thanks to the quality of the products. Which is why they’ve also given me a code for March so you’ll receive 20% off any order: MarchRunner20.

My Daily CBD Recovery Routine

Because I am a big fan of using a variety of products, I do love the  new bundles they’ve created. It means you get up to a 35% discount and then can tack on my code for more. Ok sorry, getting down to the routine (but I had to share a money saving tip!).

Every Single Night
I use the CBD oil basically every single night. For me personally, this product is the top thing that makes a difference in my overall recovery and well being.

  • It helps me get better sleep.
  • It’s TSA friendly, so I can take it with me when I travel. That means better sleep on the road.
  • Better sleep means I deal with the stress of launching a book and training better.
  • Sleep is our NUMBER 1 tool for optimal recovery according to science.

Daily usage is key to see results because it does build up over time and like your training program it takes consistency to get results. Also, you need to be taking an appropriate dosage if you want to see results.

Being a penny pincher, I thought I’d just make a bottle last even longer. Guess what…then I wasn’t seeing results. So with this oil, you’ll use basically a dropper full every night and that will get you the results.

Bonus points if you read my article on the runner’s high, then you know that it’s triggering our bodies own internal endocannabinoid system for that mood boost.

Does CBD smell like marijuana?

This was a common question I got when talking to folks who were curious about it or had tried something else and decided it was just a no go because of the smell. In fact, I was one of those people who had tried something…an expensive something that I tossed in the trash because of the smell.

No. Resilience Oil has no smell and the creams  noted below smell like lemongrass or a standard sports cream. It doesn’t have a taste or an odor and THAT was another big win for me with this!

Now having said what I do daily, here’s a look at how I incorporate other CBD products throughout my training week.

Best CBD for Muscle Recovery

Now in addition to the oil, I like to use the creams they offer for a variety of things. One of these usually comes in to play 3-4 days per week.

The Lemongrass CBD body lotion is my personal favorite because it just smells lovely, but also because lemongrass oil has long been on my usage list for helping to relax tight muscles. After traveling it feels amazing or just after a long run when I don’t hurt, but I’m tight.

Sports Cream
When I do have an area that’s feeling uncomfortable, it’s time to lather on the sports cream. It has all the things you’d expect in a sports cream to help with pain from arnica to menthol, plus the benefit of CBD.

What’s amazing about the addition of CBD is it doesn’t just mask the pain with a tingle, it actually helps it to GO AWAY due to those cannabinoid receptors we talked about. And there are a number of studies coming together which show it could prevent the pain from coming back through slowing down inflammation, which is going to mean faster healing.

Lotions and creams do not enter the bloodstream, instead they have a localized effect. This is why I like the oil for a full body effect and a cream to help boost healing in a certain area, but I think they work best together and not alone.

Best CBD for Relaxation

Post long run I’ve talked about epsom salt baths for years, but now I take it to the next level with Resilience CBD bath bombs. HOLY SMOKES people.

They have two different options and the Recover bath bomb literally ensures that either I take the best post long run nap EVER or that I will sleep like a baby that night. It’s the friggin’ best!!

I don’t do this every week because I simply don’t have the time, but especially once I’ve really pushed the distance or I’ve found myself particularly exhausted after a run…it’s now a must.CBD gummies

CBD Gummies

Ok I have a bonus here, which is the gummies they released this year. These are a super low dose way that I’ve found to just get a little bit of calm…say right before a big talk or on a day where I’m feeling stress levels rise as emails mount, I’ve got another flight to catch and still have 3 articles left to write.

  • Some runners like to use it for extra calm on those really long runs when you start to get tight all over, which helps stamina.
  • Some folks feel like it helps them focus more.
  • Some folks like me just think it’s a nice little calm.

BONUS because it’s flavored with fruit juices and remains all natural.

PLEASE, PLEASE read my original post on finding quality products. If you are ordering on Amazon, it’s just hemp and not CBD. While from the same plant, they do not do the same thing in the body.
